webmagic writes Instead of it's normal labor day weekend date. The ELY fly-in will be held AUG. 25-28 at the buffalo ranch. they plan to have a temporary hangar. The previous problems with the airport manager may be at an end. i will write about this as soon as every thing is confirmed.
good news!!! labor day weekend there will be a fly-in in Delta Utah. sept.1-4. I will be unable to attend either event, but this sounds like it is well planned and will be a lot of fun. for more information , contact Randy Fowles (435)979-1914 Those of us who have gone to Ely in the past will no doubt see many of the same faces.

webmagic writes anyone been studying for the sport pilot written and practical tests yet?
weather and understanding it play an important part of your tests.
I have added some weather resources to our links section.
weather and how to read the charts and information has always been a difficult concept for me to grasp. I recently bought weather to fly , by Paul Hamilton. I highly recomend it! That being said, I should be a dealer for Paul's products soon and will be able to give a small discount to club members.
I am planing to take the written test for sport pilot and sport pilot instructor soon. (about a week from now) and my practical in about 3 weeks. If any of you want to start a study group for the written let me know. there is a lot of information to cover.
To give you an idea of what you are letting yourself in for. Once you pass your written test. The practicle test is broken down into 2 parts.
#1 oral test-average time 3 hours
#2 flight test-average time 1 to 2 hours
while you don't have to have 100% to pass the written test, the practical is a pass or fail test. you can fail for one mistake. The practicle for sport pilot instructor is even longer.
While your ultralight training and hours will always count toward your sport pilot license, the so called easy path ends jan. 07.
There is no dpe in northern nevada for fixed wing, our closest dpe's are in lodi (no plane to use at this time) and corning (rainbow aviation) they have a registered quick silver mxl II for you to test in. you would have to then get a log book endorsement from a cfi or spcfi to fly the faster sport planes (over 87kts) and to fly in controlled airspace.
That's all for now. If you have any questions or would like to start a study group, contact me

webmagic writes some of you have seen the signs at silver springs airport (corvus-usa). I recently had a talk with the owner of corvus-usa. he will be importing a new plane from Hungary and will be in oshkosh next month. then returning to silver springs to begin testing the plane with different prop and engine configurations. this plane will be sold in elsa and lsa configurations. there will be a 4 seat version down the road.
if anyone wants to see what it looks like prior to arriving at its new home , check out their web site. there is a link in our links section.
His plans for the future include training and sales as well as repairs. SPORT PLANES COMING TO SILVER SPRINGS!!!
